I am very much In Love with a good music video which is usually accompanied by a good pop song so I have compiled a list for you, you’re welcome. Here they are in the order in which they appeared in my brain:
1. BO$$ – Fifth Harmony
Um bangin powerful confident women? I’m so *heart eyes emoji* over this video.
2. Break The Rules – Charli XCX
Perhaps the best music video of the year. You may discover through this list my penchant for music videos featuring hot girls, 90s fashion and American high school stuff like proms and cheerleaders. Or just read my bio tbh. Honestly though, it’s set in an american high school in the 90s (a time of short skirts, crop tops and chokers, i.e. my fave aesthetic) and features Charli XCX, like, ??? No brainer.
3. Fancy – Iggy Azalea ft. Charli XCX
Um basically the previous video without the prom but including tartan, cheerleaders and Iggy Azalea. I can’t deal. And I also can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this.
4. Lips Are Movin – Meghan Trainor
Aw man, Meghan Trainor is exceedingly adorable in this, especially in the thigh-highs and cute skirts. Not to mention the fucking gorgeous colours, the little bit of red in each scene works surprisingly well, I’m swooning.
5. Somebody Loves You – Betty Who
THE COLOURS IN THIS ARE FUCKING AMAZING I FELL IN LOVE SO FAST. The colours are really similar to the ones in Lips Are Movin which is probably why I thought of this video straight after that one, especially the bits with Betty’s red lips, but wow, amazingly gorgeous. Also this song makes me really happy and so does her accent.
6. Blank Space – Taylor Swift
I love this vid because Slaylor Swift wears the most elegant dresses and because of how the media was like has she lost it??? And which ex-boyfriend is this about???? Like no, tabloid media basically calls Taylor a jealous psycho bitch so she is parodying you, you fuckin idiots. Also she is so god-damn beautiful, another one to add to the aesthetic goals.
7. Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran
I love this sooo much, it’s so cute and I love how there’s a move for every beat and guitar twang, fits the song perfectly. I want them to be an actual irl couple so bad.
8. Salute – Little Mix
I loooove this so much because all the dudes are literally just props and it looks like a lesbian witch coven full of stomping boots as part of co-ordinated dance routines where everyone just wears black and real heavy eyeliner aw man. GRAB YOUR KILLER HEELS, SNEAKERS, PUMPS, OR LACE UP YOUR BOOTS. It’s just so badass, I wanna join the club so bad.
9. Hideaway – Kiesza
This one is here purely for the reason that the whole video is a one-take dance sequence which is pretty cool in itself but she also broke her rib just before this take??? HOW
10. God Only Knows – BBC Music
I swear I’ve watched this at least a dozen times, it’s literally so perfect, especially Lorde‘s seven words she manages to make so sultry and the sass in the eyes of the violinist after Jake Bugg‘s bit. Also Zayn, omg slay me.
Bonus: Pop 101 – Marianas
Trench ft. Anami Vice
Included because it’s an instructional video on how to make a perfect pop song and it starts set in an American high school in the 90s (because that, my friends, is how you do it). Also the guy shoveling hay everywhere in the Mumford and Sons bit is amazing.
Note: If you noticed that apart from the collaborative BBC video, there was only one video in here of a song by a male being, it’s because men suck at good music videos and need to step up their game in 2015 or face being ignored by some random girl writing for an (actually impressively sizeable) Australian music website.
