Playlist Preview: Calvin Harris, Jax Jones, Icona Pop, DJ Khaled & more

To prepare your nervous system for each New Music Friday I’m gonna try and do a Playlist Preview each week of the ‘big ticket items’ to get ready for.

Calvin Harris ft Pharrell, Katy Perry, Big Sean – Feels

After Rollin didn’t live up to the domination that Heatstroke and Slide brought to the charts and the radio, Calvin’s gonna do attempt number four at Making Funk Great Again when Feels drops tomorrow.

We got a tiny taste of the song the other day thanks to this very smart canary who can lift a needle up and down onto a vinyl, and it features Heatstroke hooker Pharrell, with Katy Perry and Big Sean doing bits on it too. The album’s now only two weeks away.

Jax Jones ft Demi Lovato & Stefflon Don – Instruction

After the iconic You Don’t Know Me slaughtered charts and radio all around the world, Jax Jones has now found himself in a position where he can call on slightly higher-tier vocalists for his records – so he’s gone straight to the bloody top and got Demi Lovato to drop some sass on his new single Instruction. This one sounds a bit more intense than his last few singles, it’s got more of a build before the chorus and a lot more going on than just being a straight-up house song. Stefflon Don, who’s sorta become the UK’s next big thing from the rap side, is also on board.

Icona Pop – Girls Girls

Icona’s last few singles like Weekends with Felix Snow and their one with Louis The Child haven’t really done much for them, so here’s hoping Girls Girls is as anthemic and powerful as I Love It.

Blonde ft Astrid S – Just For One Night

UK duo Blonde are back after a fair while away. I quite liked their song with belt-enthusiast Alex Newell, and it’ll be interesting to see what they can do with Astrid S on board. The only thing that annoys me about this is it will take shine off Astrid’s Party’s Over which is only a couple of weeks old.

DJ Khaled ft Rihanna & Bryson Tiller – Wild Thoughts

Rihanna always adds something special to records by big producer/DJ types and with Bryson Tiller on the new DJ Khaled single too, this should be a really nice prelude to next week’s new Khaled album featuring every man, his dog and squirrel.
