INTRODUCING: James TW’s ‘When You Love Someone,’ a devastatingly beautiful song for children of divorce

James TW is a British 18-year-old who came to my attention with his cover of Natalie Imbruglia’s Torn when it gained some traction on Spotify’s Viral 50 charts last year.

That cover brought back childhood memories of that song for me, but his new single When You Love Someone has brought back a different kind of memory from when I was a kid. The song is about kids dealing with their parents’ divorce and it fuckin hits hard if that’s something you’ve experienced.

James told Teen Vogue “I feel like divorce is a fairly unspoken topic even though it’s quite prominent in today’s world” and “I hope the song can make it easier for any child that’s going through it.” What a guy.

He sounds kinda like Jamie Lawson and I usually hate that kind of music but this is brilliant and lovely.
